The newborn brain is catching its breath and finally starting to rest a bit! Your baby’s system is acclimating to the world more and more. Each child is born with their own internal development clock. Each stage of development acts as a building block for the next stage. Remember that each child has their own temperament that starts showing up around three months old. The first several months of life are all about gaining trust. Gaining trust is the building block to creating secure attachment and the development of emotional intelligence. Remember the babies' internal sleep rhythms begin at six weeks. This is also a time when babies are suddenly more fussy. This fussy time can last 1-6 weeks, continuing and trickling right into the two month mark.

How much should my baby be sleeping?

We see at this stage about 15-17 hrs of sleep in a 24hr period. We might see about a 10-13 hr night, and 4-7 hrs of total daytime sleep. All babies are different.

Your baby’s wake window at this age is between 60-90min. And remember the longer the nap, the longer they might stay awake afterward.

Just remember: they’ll nap for 30-45min and up 2hrs max. Wake them if they are still sleeping. Extend shorter naps if you can. Focus on not going over the suggested wake window.

Below you will find more on your two month old baby’s sleep needs, feeding and nutrition, and supporting the family unit as a whole.
